Who knows you?

We all know that it’s about who you know.  It is also what you know that matters.

And obviously who knows you.

If there is such a thing as a shortcut to success, there’s no question that having a diverse, supportive network to tap into would be it. 

A strong network is a powerful career and business asset - it connects you to people, ideas, opportunities and solutions.

The noun ‘network’ feels like a very positive thing to have.  However, the verb ‘networking’ probably makes most of us shudder - triggering thoughts of awkwardly navigating a room full of strangers, plastic name badges, cringe-worthy narcissistic small-talk and juggling business cards over cheap drinks.

Wouldn’t it be great to build a powerful network, bypassing the cringe-worthy networking?

We think so too.

Perhaps it’s more helpful to replace ‘networking’ with ‘connecting’ and shift our focus from distributing business cards to building meaningful, value-adding relationships where sharing and building ideas energise us and information and opportunities just flow.

Our networks bring us into contact with people who think differently, have different experiences and perspectives and are in turn, part of their own wider sphere of influence and networks.
