Vroom and Yetton developed a contingency leadership model based on decision making styles i.e. the type of leadership style you exhibit is driven by the decisions you have to take.

Vroom and Jago further developed this model in a revised contingency decision model. 

This is sometimes called the Vroom-Yetton-Jago model as it builds on their previous work, and sometimes just the Vroom and Jago Revised Decision Model.

5 main leadership styles, 12 variables

The revised model is built on the 5 main decision making leadership styles from the original model of Vroom and Yetton and adds 12 contingency variables.

Each of the 12 contingency variables can each be rated on a sliding scale of 1 to 5 on a decision tree. 

Working through the decision tree provides a leader with the most appropriate decision leadership style to employ for that particular situation and set of contingency variables.
